Carbognano, The Monumental Staircase of “Conocchia”
“Conocchia” is the nickname given by Carbognano’s inhabitants to this spiral staircase which used to connect the town’s main public square to the archives and the domus communitatis. The staircase was also known as “The Snail’s Work.” The current configuration is the result of restorations completed in the seventeenth century.
